"All members of the trust give their time on a voluntary basis"
The JAWT (Japanese Akita Welfare Trust) was founded by a small group of dedicated Akita owners, who recognised the need for a pure breed rescue in the UK.
The group decided from the beginning that not only was there a need of a rescue and rehoming service, but also the fact that the breed needed a body who would be able to give unbiased opinions to the general public on the welfare and health aspects of this wonderful breed.
The Trust now has over thirty area co-ordinators working across the country, advising owners, rescuing, rehoming, and retraining Akitas. Our national co-ordinator makes sure that all aspects are covered by our area co-ordinators, and a board of six Trustees maintains the day to day running of the Trust.
We take dogs from all of the main UK rescue organisations including the RSPCA, NCDL, BATTERSEA DOGS' AND CATS' HOME and many of the County Councils' dog pounds, as well as advising them on the correct way of assessing Akita temperament.
At this point in time the number of Akitas being taken into care is growing day by day, which is of great concern to all of us at the Trust. The only way we feel we can reverse this trend is to go forward with our education program in the hope that this may save the lives of some of our magnificent dogs.

Although he has not lived with other dogs, he shows no aggression towards them, Kuma is also used to children.
He has a decent level of training and enjoys a good fuss, quite an affectionate boy and happy to be touched while adopting the akita lean. Our assessor describes him as "joy to meet".

JAWT 601 - Sooki
This is Sooki! She is 6 years old and based in Hull.
Due to being a previous stray Sooki will not be placed with young children. She appears to be ok around other dogs so may be able to live with a dog friendly male pending successful introductions.
She is an extremely affectionate girl, very comfortable with all of the kennel staff and happy to hand out kisses to everybody. Loves fuss and will roll over for tummy tickles, our assessor described as a very friendly girl who thrives on company. Walks very well on her lead with no pulling etc and has knowledge of basic obedience.
Sooki is not doing well in a kennel environment and really needs to secure a home of her own. Could it be yours?
Please get in touch if you think you could offer Sooki the security and love she deserves.
JAWT 622 Eddie
Eddie is an absolutely gorgeous boy we have been asked to assist in helping.

Eddie is a total sweetheart, he has never lived with children that we are aware so would only be placed in a home with older dog savvy kids! He is very well socialised and loves to meet other dogs out and about, however we are looking for a home where Eddy will be the only dog..
Eddy has been trying his hand at agility.. take a look at his video in the playground!
If this gorgeous boy is the one for you please get in touch!
