That happened to me about a month after Id got Shadow "oh look theres one of them husky things" by some foolish bloke early 20s carrying a slab of lager in the middle of the afternoon, I whipped round straight away "ITS AN AKITA" him and his mates just looked at me said "oh ok" and walked away
An akita doesnt just fill your home..it fills your heart too RIP Shadow xxxx

i was the idiot guessing dog breeds last weekend... was in my favourite bear walking reserve and saw a beautiful beautiful husky.... onLy i didn't, cos it was a malamute... poor lady corrected me and then chuckled when i told her how irked i used to get when people suggested jacks was a lovely husky!!
i have been educating my new boyf just lately as to all the different breeds while dragging him round the countryside with the bear... he too thought all 'snow dogs' were huskies... GRR!!!!

Well you know a Malamute is a big husky used for pulling not running so you are half right. Although I would slap people hard for calling "El Yoshi" a Sherbet Inu.
As for the fighting thing we are all correct in the fact that the original Akita was bred as a multi purpose dog and used predominately for tracking and guarding or as I like to call it a slanty eyed Labrador. According to a number of books I have read the Akitas was used for fighting AS MOST BREEDS HAVE OVER THE AGES. It was also served as delicacy and its pelt used as clothing for the Japanese hunters don’t see the idiots at the RSPCA talk about that.
The reason it lost favour as a fighting dog was that Akita’s didn’t have the decency to keep quiet when hurt. In the meantime the Japanese Tosa came into fashion and was breed specifically for fighting. The thing with the Tosa was that it did not make a noise as it fought. So as always the Idiots in the media don’t have a clue what they are talking about and never point to the UK as one of the biggest supporters and breeds of fighting breeds in the world. They listen to hearsay (gossip not the band) and make our dogs out to be killers. I honestly am ashamed of humans it does me in.
Did anyone see the horse fighting in the Philippines that is all the craze at the moment ?
If your dog is fat, you're not getting enough exercise

I have heard of horse fighting before, is that when they put a female into the 'ring' and the two males fight?
I tried making people aware ages ago when I was a member of PETA, and no one believed me!
A lady said to me a recently (a nice lady!) when I was moaning that my two were not 'fighting dogs' that they used to be bred for fighting, and I just didnt have my facts in place that I could argue back - I do now!!

i know exactly what you mean sarah - i had to be removed from the IFAW mailing list a while ago as i couldn't face the constant images of abuse to countless creatures, although like you i still try and do what i can
as for this horse fighting horror i have no words.
i have however found a few strong ones for the philipine embassy... if anyone wants to do the same, the email is
